The artist has given the full amount of his £25k honor cash to the MVT, which works to protect the United Kingdom's small live music spots.

He was awarded the award on October 16 as his latest record the album was chosen as the best record of the past year.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the crucial part small stages fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I personally would not have achieved what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I did around the region, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," stated the artist. "These spaces are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these locations have shut down – about 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

In the last year, major artists including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a modest fee to their ticket prices, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to support numerous grassroots venues across Britain.

The money helped locations that were facing imminent closure due to issues stemming from water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Additional spaces received monetary aid in upgrading infrastructure and sound and lighting systems that helped performers and audiences.

"The notion that revenue from concerts in big venues helps the smaller venues, where it all starts for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.

He is far from the only musician to give his Mercury Prize funds to good deeds.

In Pulp earned the trophy in the year 1996 for their album their work, frontman Cocker stated that the group would donate their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

That year, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite divided her award between several organizations, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also gave a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they required updated gear," the artist explained to outlets.

Two years ago, they gave their funds to the community center that supported their band, alongside other local music groups.

And the 1994 recipients M People gave their prize to a MS organization after a close contact was found to have the disease.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," said artist the singer. "The prize was the extra but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the main prize. So our success impacted somebody else's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had saved several grassroots venues in that region, by placing them under public stewardship.

One venue in that area and The Croft in Bristol were bought under the community ownership program, which is supported by a national body and music fans who buy "shares" in the properties.
